HELPFUL HINTS   FOR WEBSITE OWNERS - PART 2

Internet Tip of the Month
State the Subject of your e-mails clearly and succinctly. Your recipients probably glance down the list of Subjects in their In-boxes and immediately trash the majority. Subjects that are 'cute', 'clever' or simply N/A (no subject) will be among the first to go.

Return Visitors = Financial Reward

Once people have found your web site, you need to keep them coming back - so if they require your product or service, yours is the first business to come to mind. Here are some ideas that have proved successful.

Remind visitors about your site

Make it worthwhile for visitors to send you their e-mail address. For example: "Sign up for our newsletter [or notification of new products]", BUT:

Use your mailing list with discretion, sending only relevant e-mails at reasonable intervals (weekly or monthly). Do not distribute your mailing list to anyone. Scan all outgoing mail for viruses.

Put your list of addresses in the 'BCC' field of your e-mail, rather than the 'To' or 'CC' fields. This ensures each recipient sees only their own e-mail address.

Give visitors a reason to come back

Provide your target audience with fresh and useful information on a regular basis: Tips, articles or industry news.

Provide stress-relievers appropriate to your target audience. These could be inspirational sayings and images, jokes, puzzles or  funny stories. Do not use any type of offensive material. Also, be aware of, and respect, copyright restrictions.

Reward your return visitors

Put printer-friendly discount vouchers on your web site to apply to purchases in a physical store.

Provide discount vouchers at your physical store to apply to purchases from your web site.

Run competitions that encourage visitors to explore all that your site offers: Ask a skill-testing question with the answer elsewhere in the site.

Remember that everything on your web site reflects the quality and style of your business. Develop a strategy that will appeal to your target audience, then follow it through. Be patient and persevere.
