Learn the job, get the exposure
Local businesses across South Holland & The Deepings that open their doors to young people — for work experience placements and volunteering. Browse by sector and location, find somewhere that interests you, and get in touch.
Real workplaces, real experience
There's no substitute for spending a week in a real workplace. You find out what a job actually feels like day to day — not the version in the brochure — and you meet people who've done it. Many placements turn into part-time jobs, apprenticeships or references that open the next door.
Every business in this directory has told us they're happy to hear from young people. Pick a sector, pick a place, and make the call or send the email — that first step is easier than it sounds.
How it works
There are two routes into work experience, and which one applies to you depends on one thing: whether you're of school leaving age. Find your route below, follow the steps, and you're on your way.
Are you of school leaving age?
No — still at school
- You'll need to go via the school. Speak to your teacher or careers lead — they arrange placements for anyone not yet of school leaving age.
- Schools have a dedicated work experience time slot in the school terms, so your placement will usually happen in that window.
- But this doesn't stop you from trying on the weekends or half term! Ask your school about sessions outside the slot too.
Yes — school leaving age
- You do not need school permission — you're free to arrange things yourself.
- Pick a business from the directory below that interests you.
- Contact them directly and organise your work experience yourself.

Not ready for a placement? Volunteer
Volunteering counts. It's the same workplace, the same people skills and the same line on your CV — on your terms, around school or college. Several businesses in the directory take volunteers as well as placement students, and it's often the easiest way in: prove you're reliable as a volunteer and a paid role or apprenticeship tends to follow.
